First open source satellite running on space

Libre Space Foundation, responsible for developing libre space hardware, have launched a completely open source satellite on space. Born from the winners of the first Hackday Prize, the project is now getting a lot of attention from computer nerds as it has launched the first satellite which has everything from the chassis to the firmware completely Open.

According to different technical blogs on the internet, the cube sat has initially been stowed in an Orbital ATK Cygnus cargo spacecraft, later has been deployed into space with the help of NanoRacks.

The image down below, shows the moment of UPSat deployment as seen from the International Space Station, ISS.

As a linux user myself, I do get truly happy when open source projects like this one succeed on their mission. Open source is what we should use and fight for.
